This weekend is the MDA drive. We are at Colonial and Ortiz. Lori, Luis, and Jessica are working hard to get people to show up and help collect money. Unfortunately, they have gotten a very poor response. This is very disappointing to see that people are not willing to give a few hours of their time to help those affected. This is for a great cause. Families that have children affected by this rely on the services provided by the MDA. It's not about sending a child to camp. Even though that is a bonus, it's about research medication, wheelchairs, and assisting families with providing a good quality of life for their child. Unfortunately, that quality of life may be brief as their time on earth will be brief. As a parent, you want to be able to provide the best for your child and MDA helps. This is a great opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others in such a positive way. If each of us commits to giving a couple of hours, at the intersection collecting, it'll easily be covered all day all three days. This is something we participate in that has nothing to do with us other than being in the public eye in a very positive way. It's always a good time. There will be food and water supplied for those that are out there.
We are asking that this weekend, please do not abuse the sick time. We realize that it is yours to use, but we all know what happens on Saturdays especially. By not using sick time, it will allow those that want to be out collecting the ability to do so without the likelihood of being mandated for OT.
Please plan on coming out and giving a small portion of your time and energy to something that will impact others a great deal. We know many are unhappy about not being able to do it on duty, but in reality, most of FD wishes they did not have to do it on duty. This is about stepping outside of ourselves and helping others for the sake of just helping. It's not about our admin and what they are or are not doing for us. Please join us.
